Top Ten Twilight Eclipse Moments

The third installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse, opened on June 30, 2010. Did you see it??! Fans the world over wanted to see the continuation of the love triangle between the brooding vampire Edward Cullen, the human Bella Swan, and her best friend and werewolf, Jacob Black. During New Moon the fans are taken on an emotional roller coaster ride. Edward and Bella breakup "for her own good" and in her devastation she turns to her best friend Jacob for comfort. Edward and Bella eventually work things out but not before something deep has blossomed between Bella and Jacob. In Eclipse we see who can ultimately lay claim to Bella's heart and who will be heartbroken.The audience goes on a journey with Bella, as once again Victoria comes after her. We will see two unlikely allies.. the vampires and the werewolves, find themselves working together to save Bella from a ravenous army of newborn vampires. We are also be with her when she realizes that that she is in love with two men and that she must choose only one. Will Bella seek out a normal life with Jacob or will Edward "eclipse" her feelings for him?

Eclipse Movie Moment #1

At the beginning of Eclipse, Jacob and Bella are not on very good terms. Jacob is in love with her but she is standing by Edward, who is all too happy to keep them apart. Jacob is furious that Bella plans to become a vampire herself to stay with Edward forever and feels that she will be something foreign to him and not his best friend any longer. When Jacob appears at Bella and Edward's high school on his motorcycle it looks like a showdown might be imminent but Jacob is there to find out why the vampires are crossing into werewolf territory hunting for Victoria. He relishes in letting Bella know that Edward has been hiding things from her and even declined to tell her that a trip away from Forks was for her own personal safety. In a funny twist, Bella's classmates, who are unaware of the supernatural world around them, simply think that the two boys are fighting over Bella and they take bets on who could win... the icy and fierce Edward or the tall, brawny Jacob. This scene sets up the stage for the showdown between Jacob and Edward and reveals that a vampire war is brewing.

Eclipse Movie Moment #2

Edward insists that young werewolves are very dangerous and volatile. Bella has seen first hand that bad things can happen when a werewolf loses its temper. Because Edward wants to keep Bella safe he is forbidding her to see Jacob. It is extremely hard on Bella and Jacob to be apart and she attempts to sneak off to see him but Edward is too crafty and he tampers with her truck in order to keep her home bound and Alice forewarns him with her gift of foresight. When he has to go out of town to hunt he even has his vampire sister Alice kidnap Bella under the guise of a slumber party so that she can be kept AWAY from Jacob and the other werewolves at La Push.

At school one morning Jacob arrives on his motorcycle and encourages Bella to hop on! She seizes the opportunity and they take off together and with the public looking on there is nothing that Alice.. or Edward, can do to stop her. Two times Bella manages to sneak away to spend time Jacob before Edward realizes that his plan to keep them apart will never work. I can't wait to see Bella pull a fast one on Edward and Alice!

And guess what... in the movie we never get to see this scene!

Eclipse Movie Moment #3

Eventually Edward sees that he cannot keep Bella and Jacob apart and he doesn't want to risk her getting hurt trying to sneak off and see him so Edward gives up and allows them to spend time together. During one such visit Jacob professes his love for Bella and forcefully kisses her against her will. She is physically unable to resist his strength during the kiss but she punches him with all the strength she can muster. The punch has no impact on Jacob but Bella breaks her hand in the process! Bella calls Edward to pick her up and delights in telling him that Jacob has kissed her against her will. When Edward arrives he threatens Jacob and tells him that if he ever kisses Bella again he will break his jaw. Jacob insists that Bella may WANT to kiss him at some later date and Edward agrees that if Bella asks Jacob to kiss her it is okay but anything else will result in bodily harm. He also warns that Jacob had better never send her home damaged again! I can't wait to see these two tough guys hash it out.

Bella is mad at Jacob still but she also knows that she loves Edward. They talk about getting married and her eventually becoming a vampire. Edward has always worried that Bella will miss out on essential human experiences if she elects to become a vampire and Bella agrees on one count. She is afraid that once she is turned she will be consumed with bloodlust and that her physical longing for Edward will not even be on the radar. She wants to take advantage of that consuming desire and her raging hormones BEFORE she gets turned and forgets what it feels like. She agrees to marry Edward if he agrees to enter into a sexual relationship while she is still human. Edward strongly objects to this because he is afraid he may hurt her but Bella insists and eventually Edward agrees to try... after they are married. I looked forward to seeing a silly human girl attempt to seduce a willing but honorable vampire. The tension WAS delicious.

Eclipse Movie Moment #5

A war is brewing. Victoria has assembled a newborn vampire army ready to swoop in and kill Bella. Why? Because Edward killed her mate James and in retaliation she wants to kill his mate. Bella is worried that her vampire family, the Cullens, or her werewolf friends, who have joined forces to fight the newborns will be hurt in the battle. She feels unable to forgive herself if anything happened to any of them on her account.

One evening at La Push she joins the reservation inhabitants around a bonfire to listen to ancient stories told by the elders. She listens in fascination and one story in particular resonates with her. It is about The Third Wife, a woman who sacrifices herself and becomes bait to protect those she cares about. Bella's guilt about someone she loves getting hurt in this fight with Victoria makes her want to step up as a sacrifice so that her loved ones will remain unscathed. This leads her to do something reckless later in the movie so it is an important scene.

Eclipse Movie Moment #6

Well... a sleeping bag anyway. This is the beginning of the infamous "tent" scenes. These are well known fan favorites. In preparation for the war, Bella, Edward, and Jacob take up residence in the mountains where they hope to head the newborn vampires off before they can get close to town. Edward erects a tent for Bella's' comfort but an unexpected storm causes temperatures to drop suddenly. Bella is unprepared for the extreme cold and she is shivering like crazy in her sleeping bag. Edward watches helplessly until Jacob, whose werewolf body temperature is 108 degrees jumps into the sleeping bag with her to keep her warm. At first Edward protests but seeing how Bella is getting warm prevents him from acting on his jealousy.

This is the first time we see Edward openly express a jealous side and his cool, calm exterior begins to crack a little.

Eclipse Movie Moment #7

As Bella drifts off into sleep Edward and Jacob have a man to man, unaware that Bella can hear them. They discuss quite a bit but mostly they come to a Bella-related compromise. They aren't going to be best buds forever but they can agree to get along and not tear each other's heads off for Bella's sake. Jacob freely admits that he is in love with Bella and that he believes Bella is in love with him too but can't own up to it. Edward admits that he is in fact very jealous of their relationship and admits that Jacob would be the more suitable man for her. Female fans everywhere will be oohing and aahing as they these two dreamboats talk about their feelings of love and devotion.

Eclipse Movie Moment #8

This is the moment Team Jacob fans are waiting for! In the tent the next day Edward and Bella are talking about the previous nights events. Edward brings up their engagement, knowing that Jacob is outside listening. They hear a heart shattering howl and Bella realizes that Jacob overheard their talk of marriage. She is racked with guilt and begs Edward to go and find him so they can talk. When Jacob returns Edward leaves so they can talk in private. In pain, Jacob threatens to allow himself to be killed in the upcoming conflict. Upon hearing her dismay Jacob blackmails her into kissing him. He pleads that Bella kissing him will stop him from joining the fight and getting killed. She agrees and they kiss but the kiss is far more meaningful than she wanted it to be. She realizes that she IS in love with Jacob and that she should have had a life with him in a normal world without vampires and werewolves but she fell in love with Edward and her love for him eclipses anything she could have had with Jacob. As the kiss ends and Jacob leaves, her heart is breaking.

When Edward returns he is able to see a play by play of the kiss, using the pack hive mind and his mind reading abilities. Bella is distraught and crying and Edward comforts her despite his obvious sadness over the shared kiss between Jacob and his Bella.

Eclipse Movie Moment #9

Edward agreed at Bella's request to stay out of the fight and remain in the woods with her. It is hard for him to stay out of a war his family is fighting but for Bella's sake he agrees. Unfortunately, Victoria is smarter than they gave her credit for and she finds Bella and Edward and she and Edward fight. She brought one of her newborns with her but she did not anticipate that Seth, a young werewolf would be there with them. Seth and Riley fight while Edward battles Victoria and tries to keep her from getting past him to attack Bella. At one point Bella thinks Edward is in trouble and she cuts herself on a rock hoping to draw attention her way. This scene is the showdown between Victoria and Edward that has been brewing for 3 movies now and it gets settled finally. I can't wait to see the darker, predator, side of Edward which he shows in these scenes... so dark and predatory in fact that he fears Bella will be terrified of him from that point.

While Edward is fighting Riley and Victoria... the Cullens and the werewolf pack are fighting nearly two dozen newborn and super strong vampires. It's arguably the best action scene in the whole of The Twilight Saga. Alice uses her size and super speed to fight. Jasper works overtime to try to keep her OUT of the fight by taking on all who would oppose her. The werewolves relish in getting to do what they are meant to do... fight their mortal enemy.. the vampire. These scenes are also crucial because Jacob comes to the aid of a fellow pack member and gets hurt badly. When Bella hears that Jacob has been hurt she passes out cold. She does not get too much time to digest this news before they get an unwelcome visit from the Volturi, who came to address the newborn army that was created and set loose.
